Police responded to a shooting in Northeast D.C. at around 6 p.m. in the Carver Langston neighborhood and found multiple people with gunshot wounds, Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith said at a press briefing Wednesday.
Smith said a man was pronounced dead at the scene, a 9-year-old boy, a woman and two men were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The police chief added that a little later, a 12-year-old boy also arrived at a local hospital.

Smith, said police will investigate and work to address gun violence in the city and remove illegal weapons from the streets. All violent crime has also gone down by 22% compared to the same time period in 2023.
“What we’re seeing is an increase in guns in the district and we’re doing everything we can to ensure we’re removing those guns off of our streets," Smith said.
